OPTIONS FOR THE POOR AND VULNERABLE

Scripture calls society to put the needs of the most vulnerable in society first, but in the case of this injustice, society is not upholding this expectation. Based on the evidence, it is clear that those most susceptible to the effects of financial downfall, driven by the lack of financial literacy, are the poorest in American society. When not protected, they are backed into making ill-advised financial decisions at the hands of financial organizations, often leading them into more poverty and debt. People affected are left in a helpless situation with no way of getting out.

CONNECTIONS

The 63% of Americans that are financially illiterate in this country are vulnerable to the exploitations of American banks. At the same time, they have little resources to find their way out of situations where they can be exploited. These two blanket statements explain why this injustice goes against Options for the Poor and Vulnerable. American Government and school systems are not readily providing not only school aged Americans, but also adults with the resources needed to make sound financial decisions, making them vulnerable in the financial sphere.
