Successful social change is a sign of the Kingdom of God by demonstrating harmony and social salvation within society. Within the Social Gospel there is a belief that social salvation is needed in addition to individual salvation in order to reach the Kingdom of God. This belief was held strong during the Progressive Era, a time of great systemic change in America, and this included major changes in the economic system.13 Positive change is a sign that humanity is working together as a community to improve the quality of life of the vulnerable. Community and support is a sign of love and compassion, both signs of God and the Holy Spirit.
